This story is an adventure in Richard Bach’s life as he traveled from the east coast to the west coast (USA) with his newly purchased amphibious small airplane. He detailed all the events throughout his trip with a journal and pictures. To give the design a tie to the topic of this book, I setup 6 different chapter openers each with Puff in flight representing the theme of the chapter. I represented Puff on each page using a screened image of the tail behind the page number.

During the design phase my client stated this in an email.

“He [Richard Bach] will be staggered by the beauty of your work. You do have an artist's sensibility.”

Its all about music. This biography tells the story of Larry Butler's life and how he overwhelmed the music industry with his song writing talent. The design is all about music, too. I used stanzas throughout the design to keep the music flowing. The music stanzas for ‘Hey, Won’t You Play’ or ‘Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song’ was broken up and added as a segment break graphic within the text. The image pages in the last section of the book have a musical note watermark for a background.

Spirit Singing. This story is by Shawna Carol about her life as a singer and composer during the time she was creating the unique singing method SpiritSong. My client wanted a feminine feel but also to bring out the joy she has for song.  Using a supplied graphic and the flowing cover style, I designed a open feel to the page using a stone sans font (Univers) blending into the body font (Sabon) making it an easy to read page. Adding a elegant glyph to the page folio sets the feminine feel for each page. The chapter openers are a balanced combination of the 2 fonts starting low on the page with enough space between elements to produce an airy feel.
